Building a movement for

pacific islander self determination

in Oregon

ABOUT US

The Oregon Pacific Islander Coalition is a community organizing space for Pacific Islander (Melanesian, Micronesian, and Polynesian) organizations and leaders who are accountable to Pacific Islander communities in Oregon.

Our mission is to strengthen Pacific Islander-led movements that raise our collective voices, experiences and expertise through leadership development, community organizing and advocacy.

This work allows us to build towards our vision of thriving Pacific Islander communities rooted in our indigenous values, languages, cultures, and histories.

We believe this will happen when Pacific Islanders are at the forefront of leading the movement for Pacific Islander self determination in Oregon.

“We should not be defined by the smallness of our islands, but by the greatness of our oceans.  We must wake up to this ancient truth and, together, use it to overturn all hegemonic views that aim, ultimately, to confine us again; physically and psychologically.  It is time to create things for ourselves; to create established standards of excellence that match those of our ancestors.”
